That’s a Wrap!

After a night at Asgard Hostel on Silver Star Mountain, the team arises with heightened anticipation as this is day 10. This morning is a little different as this would be our last day on the road and everyone is anxiously anticipating being greeted by their family and friends at the ride finale.  After the bus ride down to Denny’s in Vernon for the final team breakfast and photos we’re on our way home.

A couple of hours later we are rolling into Kelowna after being joined by Cops for Kids friend and sponsor Al Hildebrandt. As is fitting, we are also joined by our “Little Ambassador” Mercedes the ride into the Ramada parking lot and the cheers of those awaiting our arrival – emotions are once again fully charged.

The team assembles for introductions and final pictures of the 2017 team. Kind words and greetings are extended by our MC Phil Johnson of Bell Media, music from Whitworth Music students are followed by congratulatory comments from RCMP Deputy Commissioner Brenda Butterworth-Carr,  senior members representing South East District and Kelowna Detachment and Maxine DeHart on behalf of the City of Kelowna. With official duties of the team concluded we disperse to the arms of those waiting. We then search out each other for final good bye that concludes with “hope to see you for next year’s ride”

I was honoured and humbled to travel with such a compassionate group of individuals.  This year’s riders hailed from across South East BC – Alan, Andrew, Andrew, Carmen, Claudia, Denise, Eva, Fred, Gail, Garnet, James, Jared, John, Jon, Krista, Kurt, Michel, Mike, Nick, Rob, Ron, Sam and Tim who were supported by Allen, Gevan, Jesse, Julio, Ken, Shauna and our task master Courtney. They quickly found themselves on much more than just a 1,000 km fundraising bike ride.  From the send -off breakfast through 19 communities, there was the joy of meeting “Little Hearts” and their families. Whether a first time participant or one of us old timers, tears would well up and our hearts would glow as we listened to family members telling us how Cops for Kids have had such a significant impact on their lives.  For many members of the team they were introducing children and families from the communities which they serve. The money raised through their efforts at work in their community.

Funds raised by the riders are destined to assist children in South East BC faced with medical, traumatic and physical crisis. Our thanks go out to all our sponsors and supporters who provide our meals, accommodation and transportation services for the ride. Without their generosity, the ride would not occur. We also acknowledge the support provided the riders by their families who sacrifice valuable time together so they can undertake fundraising and training in addition to 10 days away from home.

We are extremely proud to announce that to date this year’s ride has raised over $310,000 which will support “Little Hearts”. Unfortunately there is never enough to satisfy the needs. To date Cops for Kids has over 170 requests for support under consideration. We’d hate to say no due to lack of funds.

Donations are gratefully accepted throughout the year.

Thank You for supporting Cops for Kids Charitable Foundation.
